I was inspired to create the above Cryptex after reading Dan Brown’s "The Da Vinci Code." Over the course of one semester in a drafting class, I designed this working prototype in SolidWorks based on the description in the book: a cylinder with alpha-numeric rings around it. After completing a model of it, I printed the first version on a Z-corp 3D printer, and then the third version pictured above on a Stratasys 3Dprinter.

Current Status:

I am a Principal Mechanical Engineer in Southern California working in aerospace and defense. I have 6 years of professional industry experience and am pursuing a masters degree at Columbia University with an expected graduation of Spring of 2026. My current projects are a 3D printed Japanese book binding jig and a miniature RP2040 implementation with an integrated display and battery. I am a published author, having presented a paper on my laser cutter design at the 2018 International Mechanical Engineering Congress and Exposition, and a designated subject matter expert at Raytheon Technologies in the use of Laser Trackers.
